Inspired by the American Green Card, the European Blue Card was created in 2011 to attract highly qualified workers in Europe.
The requirements are different in each EU country. In France, the requirements for a highly qualified worker to obtain the permit are:
- hold a higher education diploma justifying at least 3 years of studies OR have 5 years of professional experience or more
- sign a work contract in France of a 1-year duration or more
- earn an annual revenue equivalent to at least 1.5 times the average gross reference salary (53 836,50 € in 2020).
The visa holder’s spouse and minor children can benefit from the Passeport Talent – Family visa.
